ABOUT HORIZONS

 

The Horizons partnership was developed ahead of WOMEX 13, Cardiff, bringing together England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to celebrate the wealth of our music traditions and cultures within a world music market.
 
The name Horizons comes from the welcoming words of poet Gwyneth Lewis on the front of Wales Millennium Centre  “Creu gwir fel gwydr o ffwrnais awen / In these stones horizons sing”. This expresses something about the partnership’s shared ambition to develop and broaden their musicians’ horizons.
 
By working together, these nations are better able to support individual talent to reach new, international markets by sharing resources, information and stages. Practically, the partners will coordinate presence at selected world and folk showcase and trade events.

Arts Council England
Arts Council England work to get great art for everyone by championing, developing and investing in artistic experiences that enrich peoples lives by supporting a range of artistic activities from theatre to music, literature to dance, photography to digital art, carnival to crafts.

Arts Council of Northern Ireland
The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is the lead development agency for the arts in Northern Ireland.  It is the main support for artists and art organisations throughout the region, offering a broad range of funding opportunities through its Treasury and National Lottery funds.

Arts Council of Wales
Arts Council of Wales is an independent charity, established by Royal Charter in 1994. Its members are appointed by the Welsh Government’s Minister for Culture and Sport. Our principal sponsor is the Welsh Government. We also distribute funding from the National Lottery and raise additional money where we can from a variety of public and private sector sources. We are the country’s funding and development organisation for the arts.

British Council

The British Council is the UK’s cultural relations agency. The British Council Music team works with an overseas network of arts managers and partners to plan, resource, deliver and evaluate high-impact arts projects involving professional artists and organisations from the UK.  They aim to strengthen the international profile of UK music and creativity, to communicate the diversity of UK society and to establish long-term partnerships overseas. From electronica to jazz, traditional to folk and classical to indie, they work across all genres of music. The Music Team also has its own weekly radio show, The Selector, featuring the best new music from the UK.

British Underground is a respected arts development organisation based in London.  It is an Arts Council England NPO and is housed within the Musicians’ Union head office.

Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales
Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales (CCMW) is managed by Arts Council of Wales/Wales Arts International and supported by Welsh Government. It works with musicians and the wider music sector in Wales to develop international opportunities.

Creative Scotland
Creative Scotland is the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland on behalf of everyone who lives, works or visits here. We enable people and organisations to work in and experience the arts, screen and creative industries in Scotland by helping others to develop great ideas and bring them to life. We distribute funding from the Scottish Government and The National Lottery.

Culture Ireland

Culture Ireland promotes Irish arts worldwide, creating and supporting opportunities for Irish artists and companies to present and promote their work at strategic international festivals and venues. This includes the development of platforms to present outstanding Irish work to international audiences, through showcases at key global arts events, including the Edinburgh Festivals and the Venice Biennales. Culture Ireland is currently presenting an international culture programme commemorating the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme globally. Wales Arts International
We facilitate international work in the arts through collaborations, projects, networks and communication. We provide advice and support to artists and arts organisations from Wales who work on an international level. We are also a contact point for international artists and arts organisations working in Wales.Wales Arts International fosters international artistic excellence in Wales and ensures international impact and recognition for the arts and culture of Wales.
